Sounds simple, but it's a strategy that's NOT entertained by the majority of our competitors. They choose to run closed systems whereby they can "negotiate" pricing on a case by case basis. It is our belief that this "negotiated" position significantly favours the supplier not the customer. We often hear from our customers that other competing suppliers won't give pricing until they tell them what they use, and in some cases how much they use. The supplier use the excuse that this gives them the opportunity to provide the customer with the best price. We believe that this isn't their true motivation, it's more to do with getting them in a position where they can dictate terms to the customer. Why don't they first give YOU "The Customer" a FULL list of pricing and then negotiate on so called contracted lines. The reason is simple: they use the contract pricing to secure (or buy) the initial business and then plan to make up on any lost margin through the other product lines that YOU will inevitably buy over time. When anyone "buys" anything they expect to get something back in return so asking why would a supplier give something away (ie at cost) what are they hoping to get back in return?
